this year some of the most exciting movies i have been most excited about watching have been because benoit debie has shot them. not such a long time ago, directors were not auteurs but hired guns paid to do a job and the producer was seen as the creative force behind the project. cinematographers or directors of photography i think are beginning to have their days in the sun. christopher doyle is a household name and benoit debie is about to be. i will happily watch movies i have no other compelling reason to watch because he filmed them. the card player by dario argento is one of these movies, despite my love of dario it is not all that. joshua is a better movie but still not quite my bag. however!!! dude shot gaspar noe's irreversible, fabrice du welz's calvaire and lucile hadzihalilovic's innocence. that right there is pretty much all you need to know. i really should have at least a whole entry about innocence which is one of the most brilliant debut movies i have ever seen. but just go see it. this year alone he is working with fabrice again (awesome!) and marilyn manson's lewis carroll movie which is going to just completely rock i am certain. what do they look like? awesomely pretty. like just after it rains but things are still overcast and set in their landscapes assuredly. nothing moves too fast except when it does. this makes horror kick like no one's business. i am also hoping gapsar noe will make some more movies soon. an itch only he can scratch. i am quite aware this nearly-writerly-free post is full of euro-name-dropping mostly hoping you will go watch these movies! love! nathan!

I think that Igmar Bergman's a safe bet. 'The Seventh Seal' or 'Wild Strawberries' .

But since you are a man who appreciates art here is a hyperlink to a photo of a great painting by the American Tonalist painter : Lowell Harrison . The painting is titled :'November' and can be seen at the following hyperlink :http://www.artrenewal.org/asp/database/image.asp?id=5318

It is a late Christmas present from Jay :the guy that chatted with you and Christie at Newcollege of Sarasota during one dreamlike evening in April of 1994 .
