tetsuya watari is the most hardboiled actor-dude in the entire world ever. sure, he was like in tokyo drifter and stuff and sure, rocked, but dude was the lightning-rod atop the double-negative left-hand pinnacle of kinji fukasaku's yakuza film career: graveyard of honor (1975) and yakuza graveyard (1976). he looks the same in both movies: the hair-length with the least maintenance, the near-autistic affect ruined only by sudden explosive violence, the loud sportcoats, the aviator shades no matter what year its supposed to be. graveyard of honor is the post-war historical yakuza mini-epic. yakuza graveyard is vigilante cop action. my personal money is on yakuza graveyard but you should just watch them back-to-back. watari is a mad dog who has never seen a leash. some of the most astounding physical performances ever, this guy just goes to town and it takes a nation of dozens of to hold him back, swaying drunken stacks of flotsam, so like the entire world acts out, shaky and barrelling forth. this guy JS 1415390 on netflix called him a psychotic wolverine and that is an excellent description as he will turn on any group of people, any size, at any time and seemingly at any or none provocation and he will almost always win. if he loses he will just come back later and do it again. he will take their cash, their drugs, their weapons, kill some of them, leave, come back kill some more people and engage others in conversation. less an actor than i don't know what, all hail tetsuya watari!!! all hail!!!! all haill!!!love, me.
